Peter Robinson

Peter Robinson was born at Castleford in 1950. He obtained a BA Honours Degree in English Literature at Leeds University in 1974 then emigrated to Canada. He lives in Toronto with his wife Sheila.

His series of Inspector Banks novels and stories set in Eastvale, Yorkshire are popular on both sides of the Atlantic.

Inspector Banks first appeared in the 1987 novel 'Gallows View'. This first novel was nominated for the John Creasy award. The next books in the series are: 'A Dedicated Man' (1988); 'A Necessary End' (1989); 'The Hanging Valley' (1989); 'Past Reason Hated' (1992); 'Wednesday's Child' (1993); 'Final Account' (1994); 'Innocent Graves' (1996) and 'Blood at the Root' (aka 'Dead Right') (1998). The latest Inspector Banks mystery called 'In a Dry Season' is due to be published soon.

'Past Reason Hated' won the Crime Writers of Canada Arthur Ellis Award for best novel.

Other novels are 'Caedmon's Song' (1990) and 'No Cure for Love' (1995)

Short stories include 'Innocence' (Crime Writers of Canada Best Short Story Award) (1990) and 'The Two Ladies of Rose Cottage' (a Macavity Award winner).

AFTERMATH

Set in a suburb of Leeds, this latest Inspector Banks novel starts with the culprits captured. The inspector realises that the investigation is only just beginning.

A NECESSARY END

A policeman is killed at an anti-nuclear demonstration in Eastvale. Banks narrows the suspects down to the inhabitants of an isolated house in the Dales.

A corpse is discovered at Swainshead and the investigation into an unsolved murder is re-opened. Inspector Banks' investigation takes him to Canada.
