Bus and Railway Stations

The government has announced a £14 million scheme to build an interchange in the town centre. This will relocate the bus station to next to the railway station.

Work on the new Interchange starts soon.  There is a regular train service  between Leeds and Sheffield that calls at Castleford as well as Wakefield, Barnsley and the Meadowhall Shopping Complex.

Buses (nearly all operated by Arriva) enter the bus station from Wakefield and Leeds. Buses also serve the places in and around Castleford including a regular service to Pontefract via the Junction 32 Shopping Village (Factory Outlet) and Xscape. The town centre is at the exit of the bus station and extends to the right - eastwards along Albion Street then turn right into Carlton Street.

Nor far from the railway station is the British Legion building, in front of which is the town's war memorial. The building of the new transport interchange will mean that the memorial will have to be moved. The British Legion and the Council are working together to provide an enhanced memorial in the town centre.
