In 1979, Jack Rosenthal produces BBC television film for "Play for Today" of "Spend, Spend, Spend." Stars Susan Littler as Viv and wins BAFTA for best single play. Intro: "I was born in 1936 in Castleford, Yorkshire. You'll find it on the map - I'm the bugger that put it there. Where we lived, all the fellers were coal-miners. Except me dad - he was a full-time, fully-paid-up, fully-fledged bastard."

1984, appears on the sleeve of the Smiths' record "Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now."

"Spend, Spend, Spend" musical premiers in 1998 at The West Yorkshire Playhouse and goes onto the West End stage the following year.
