Wheldon LaneTiger mascot

The Jungle is the home ground of Castleford's Rugby Superleague team Castleford Tigers, which has an active supporters' club. The team started in the Sandy Desert at Lock Lane in 1920 and moved to Wheldon Lane in 1927. The team has won the Challenge Cup four times.

Pit wheel memorial at Wheldale

Further along from the Jungle is the site of the former Wheldale Colliery. The site is marked by the pit wheel retained as a  feature.

There is a spot to remember the mineworkers killed in World War II.

Alkane Methane plant

Near the site is a plant that converts methane from the former mine workings into electricity.
